According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, July 26, 2000 Vol. 284. No. 4, 44,000 to 98,000 Americans die every year due to medical errors. Of 13 countries, the United States ranks 12th of 16 major indicators (second from the bottom!). The World Health Organization ranked the US 15th of 25 industrialized countries in terms of the overall health of our country. Just consider some of these statistics:

JAMA, July 26, 2000 Vol. 284. No. 4
12,000 deaths/yr - due to unnecessary surgery
7,000 deaths/yr - due to medication errors in hospitals
20,000 deaths/yr - due to other hospital errors
80,000 deaths/yr - due to nosocomial (hospital acquired) infections
106,000 deaths/yr - due to adverse rxn, nonerror. The physician prescribed the   drugs correctly, they just killed the patient.
225,000 deaths/yr - due to iatrogenic causes (physician induced!)

Bottom line: Despite spending more for healthcare than all the other countries in the world combined, our society is sick. Sadly over 60% of our population is obese and death due to obesity related ailments is now the third leading cause of death in the US, behind only heart disease and cancer.

I remain convinced that our current healthcare and insurance crisis will never end until people adopt a health and wellness mindset! We will only gain control of spiraling medical costs, when healthy people proactively engage in activity to remain healthy, thereby avoiding that high cost, high diagnostic, high drug, and dangerous symptom model of thinking.

Our office promotes a well-rounded program to regain your health. Regaining and then staying healthy is the best form, and least expensive form, of healthcare you can buy.

General rules for health:

1. Keep spinal subluxations under control and call your Chiropractor today.
2. Exercise---both aerobic and weight resistive exercise are important.
3. Eat healthy! Only in America do we consider eating right.a diet!
4. Sleep 7-8 hours per night.
5. Protect your mind by feeding it positive information.
6. Seek spiritual guidance in your life.
7. Take quality vitamins, minerals, and anti-oxidants daily.

As always, check with your doctor and get a good check-up before embarking on a program to regain your health.
