We've all heard the saying, "As the twig is bent, so grows the
tree." While a bit simplistic, the same basic principle applies
to the developing human spine. As babies transition from laying,
to crawling, to stumbling, to walking, to rough and tumble kid activities,
the spine endures repeated micro-insult that if left unchecked,
could lead to spinal curvature, i.e. scoliosis.
Whether the result of an infant or childhood trauma, or a hereditary
problem, scoliosis is the sideways curving of the spine, resulting
in uneven shoulders, distorted hips and even severe pain as the
condition worsens. The chiropractic approach is to use safe, specialized
adjustment techniques that often produce excellent success. In addition
to specific spinal adjustments, scoliosis management includes exercise,
flexion-distraction (a specialized form of spinal mobilization),
electrical stimulation, nutritional support, and in the worst cases,
a referral to an orthopedic surgeon.
Chiropractic care can avert the need to use unsightly braces or
drastic, invasive surgical procedures. Do not buy into the "well,
let's just watch it and see what happens" approach and mentality.
Why watch the curve worsen when effective, safe, gentle treatment
exists to prevent the progression of this potentially debilitating
condition? Visit our office today for a thorough examination to
see if your child could benefit by Chiropractic management. While
we certainly cannot help every case, Chiropractic care is a logic
avenue in scoliosis management for kids of all ages.
