Sciatica is a very painful condition, which
causes numbness, sharp, dull, and/or burning pain in the leg, normally
extending from the low back, down the leg, and often into the ankle
and foot. There are numerous possible causes of sciatica including;
disc herniation/bulge, irritated nerve roots secondary to swelling,
piriformis syndrome, sacroiliac dysfunction, and organic processes
like prostate disease, even pregnancy.
Your doctor of Chiropractic is trained to thoroughly examine the spine
to determine the source of your pain, and then offer a unique treatment
program tailored specifically to your needs. Often we recommend a
multidisciplinary treatment approach for more troubling low back pain
or sciatica. We will even help you find an MD familiar with Chiropractic
care. In the worst of cases, Lumbar Decompression Therapy may be used,
which can usually help you avoid surgery.
The chiropractic approach to treating sciatica may include; ice, traditional
side-posture spinal adjustments, flexion-distraction, Lumbar Decompression
Therapy, bracing, exercise/stretching, nutritional supplementation,
physical therapy, dietary changes, modification of home and work activities,
deep tissue massage and/or referral to a massage therapist, referral
to a medical physician if necessary to help control pain while your
spine problem is being corrected.
Bottom line: Sciatica is treatable. You may not have to suffer any
longer. Call our office today to schedule a thorough examination.
